I am loyal and respectful to my clients. I I have a doctorate in clinical psychology, and I have been practicing in behavioral health for greater than 44 years. have participated in over 24,000 sessions. These have included case consultation, individual, couple, and family counseling; assessments and evaluations; treatment planning and discharge planning; group therapy, and crisis assessments as a qualified examiner.
I have been trained to counsel adults, adolescents, and children. I most commonly treat anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, attention deficit disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, addictive disorders, and post-trauma. I have appreciable experience in treating moderate autism and psychotic disorders. I also have vast experience in marriage and family counseling. I utilize cognitive-behavioral therapy and the psychology of meaningfulness to help others successfully manage challenges.
My professional career experiences have included Holy Cross Hospital, Hinsdale Hospital, the Kendall County Health Department, private practice through Johnson and De Valk, et al, and merger with Terry Abrahamson and Associates, the Du Page County Health Department, Aurora University, and Lifework Counseling. I have provided student and staff supervision since 1985. I have been a senior clinician for two health departments while also counseling children and adults, and those with dual disorders and substance abuse disorders. I have developed outpatient programs, and consulted on the development of hospital-based and private practice programs. I have also counseled in a jail setting and supervised an independent living facility for adult dual disorders. I am certified in addictions counseling. I have been educated at St. Xavier University, Aurora University, and Adler University.
I am honored to have the trust and faith of clients and colleagues. My religious beliefs have enabled a marriage of 42 years and two wonderful daughters and son-in-laws. I truly enjoy my family, running, cross training, landscaping, attending church, baseball, studying American History, Christianity, and neurology.
